Bulgaria Air Receives High Recognition for Compliance with Green Standards from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
The national carrier received an excellent assessment from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for its consistent green policy and its modernized aircraft fleet. Bulgaria Air’s new Airbus A220 aircraft are champions in meeting Europe’s noise pollution prevention requirements.
In December, the Dutch airport reported that Bulgaria Air is among the best-performing airlines in terms of reducing noise pollution and carbon emissions in 2025. The recognition from the airport authorities in the Netherlands is a direct result of the airline’s focused efforts to modernize its fleet, further develop best practices, and ensure the sustainable management of its operations.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, one of the largest airports on the continent, reported significant progress in Bulgaria Air’s performance over this year. Thanks to the new Airbus A220 aircraft, the carrier operated 99% of its flights to and from Amsterdam using aircraft in the most favorable noise categories, S6 and S7. Data for the period January–October 2025 show that 600 out of a total of 608 flights met these criteria. The Schiphol Airport report highlights that the excellent results achieved over the ten-month period represent a substantial improvement compared to the same period in 2024, when the airline’s already impressive performance stood at 78%.
The modern Airbus A220 aircraft, which form a core part of Bulgaria Air’s renewed fleet, provide significant environmental and operational advantages for flights across Europe. The seven new aircraft that entered service over the past two years feature up to 25% lower fuel consumption, a substantial reduction in noise emissions, suitability for urban airports, longer range, and improved efficiency. This enables the airline to offer an even more comfortable travel experience for its passengers, optimize costs, and reduce its carbon footprint, further reinforcing its position as a highly responsible and sustainable national air carrier.
