Bulgaria Air offers service for unaccompanied minors
The national carrier Bulgaria Air provides a specialized service for unaccompanied minors who travel alone and ensure their safety and comfort during flights. The service is designed for children aged 5 to 18 and includes the same level of care from the airline's team regardless of the age group of the young passengers.
When an unaccompanied minor service for children aged 5 to 11 years is requested, the airline will provide a staff member to meet the child at the airport of departure and accompany them through all airport procedures, as well as a staff member to hand them over to the greeter on arrival. To use the service, a full fare ticket without a child discount is charged, plus a UM fee of EUR 70 per segment for international flights and EUR 40 for domestic flights. For certain destinations, such as departures from London or Zurich, the fee is in the local currency - £70 / 70 Swiss francs / one way on a direct flight to Sofia.
Parents of children in the 12 to 18 age group can also take advantage of the unaccompanied minor service for the same fee. These passengers are provided with a similar accompanied service as for children between 5 and 11 years.
Anyone wishing to use the unaccompanied minor service is to make an enquiry at least 2 weeks before the flight to callfb@air.bg.. After confirmation of the service by the Customer Service Centre, the child's age and date of birth, as well as information about the greeter and sender - names, telephone number and address - must be entered in the booking. A form with the booking details is to be filled in, it can be downloaded from the airline's website or filled in at the check-in desk at the airport before the flight itself.
The airline accepts unaccompanied minor aged 12 to 18 on its flights transferring at Sofia Airport only if contacts are provided and a greeter/sender is provided at the transfer point. The child must carry a valid passport for international travel, and for domestic flights the passport can be replaced by a birth certificate - original or notarized copy.
One cabin crew member may accompany two children of the same family (siblings) who travel together. For two children of the same family travelling together, one service fee is payable. Trust the Bulgaria Air team to travel unaccompanied minors and do not worry for them throughout the flight.
