Baggage Allowance on Bulgaria Air Flights

All passengers of Bulgaria Air are entitled to free carriage of checked baggage (in the aircraft baggage hold) and of cabin baggage on-board. The free allowances for pieces and weight of baggage may vary depending on the travel class (business or economy). Baggage transportation on regular lines also conforms to some general rules and the policy of Bulgaria Air, which you need to keep in mind.

Baggage Policy of Bulgaria Air

Bulgaria Air introduces rules for baggage carriage on its destinations for all tickets, issued after 02 May 2011. The PIECE CONCEPT system is based on the quantity, weight and dimensions of the checked-in baggage.

Checked-in baggage

Each passenger has the right to transport in the aircraft holds free of charge baggage, as follows:

1. International and Domestic flights

For tickets paid with co-branded card Bulgaria Air / CCBank

2 pieces of 23 kg and up to 158 cm each.

For members of the ‘CCB Club’ programme- free checked-in baggage

2 pieces of 23 kg. Third piece is charged as third excess baggage.

Seamen

2 pieces of 23 kg and up to 158 cm each.

Infants 0-2 years of age

1 piece – max. 10 kg and up to 115 cm

Transportation of baby carriages is free of charge, but it is mandatory to hand them over/to receive them immediately before embarkation / disembarkation of the aircraft.

The aviation company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from transportation on baggage belts, in case the carriage has not been handed over/received at the aircraft.

The maximum allowed size is the sum of external length, height and width of the baggage /l+h+w/. The passenger may carry more than the free of charge allowance for an additional charge.

All tickets paid online, by phone or at the offices of the aviation company with the Co-branded credit card Visa CCB-Bulgaria Air (Classic, Visa Platinum and Visa Gold) are entitled to two pieces of baggage 23 kg each. If the tickets are paid through the company's website, please contact us by phone +359 2 40 20 400 or by email at callfb@air.bg to reissue the ticket entitled to 2 pieces of free baggage. The possession of cards - CCB Club, Visa Platinum card from CCB, CCB co-branded card, gold card and Fly More "Bulgaria Air" does not entitle free extra checked baggage on tariff FNOBAG.

If you hold a Fly More gold card or you are member of the ‘CCB Club’ program, after purchase you should contact our representative for reissuing of the ticket entitled to two pieces of baggage. The entitlement to two pieces of baggage for holders of Fly More gold card and members of the ‘CCB Club’ programme, and for tickets paid with Co-branded credit card Visa CCB-Bulgaria Air and Visa Platinum card from Central Cooperative Bank applies only to flights operated by Bulgaria Air as carrier.

5. Special categories of baggage

Sport equipment    

The baggage must be of maximum weight and dimensions 23 kg and 200 cm.

Exception:

  • International flights: One pair of skis/snowboard per passenger – a fixed rate of EUR 30 applies.
  • Domestic flights: One pair of skis/snowboard per passenger – a fixed rate of EUR 20 applies.

Bicycles

Accepted for carriage in special packing (cardboard or a special case).

Maximum size of packing 160 х 90 х 25 cm

This service requires confirmation in advance in the reservation.

International flights: EUR 70. Domestic flights: EUR 30.

Firearms

Carriage of firearms and ammunition is carried out according to the requirements of the International Air Transport Association /IATA/.

It is not confirmed on code-share flights up to FB1431/1432 and FB1451/1452 to/from Paris and Rome where operators are Air France and Alitalia.

Carriage of firearms and ammunition other than sport weapons and ammunition is prohibited.

In some cases, carriage of firearms and ammunition for hunting and sporting purposes may be allowed. The passenger should contact Bulgaria Air and provide information on the type of weapon, its serial number and the ammunition, which will be entered into the reservation system. All firearms and ammunition will be accepted only as baggage to be transported in the holds of the plane and under no circumstances in the passenger cabin. They must be suitably packed separately and the weight of the ammunition should not exceed 5 kg.

The passenger should have all documents required by law and regulations applicable to carriage for the particular state.

Bulgaria Air reserves the right to deny carriage of firearms and ammunition.

  • Hunting rifles and cartridges – set of up to 15 kg: fee EUR 50.
  • Hunting rifles and cartridges – total weight over 15 kg: fee EUR 70.
  • Short-barrel firearms (pistol): fee EUR 20.

Hunting rifles and cartridges are regarded as one piece of registered baggage and are charged with one-time fee for service. This type of baggage is not included in the free allowance and the fee is applied regardless of whether the passenger has other checked-in baggage.

Pets in the passenger cabin /PETC/ 

Maximum weight of pet and cage – up to 8 kg.

For flights FB1431/1432 to/from Paris, where operator is Air France, the maximum weight is 6 kg.

Maximum dimensions of the cage – 48 x 35 x 22 cm.

Only dogs and cats are accepted. Bulgaria Air does not accept for carriage live animals to and from Great Britain.

If travelling with an animal /dog or cat/, please be advised to contact the aviation company at the time of purchase of your ticket, because if there is no request in advance, the carriage of the animal may be refused.

Not included in the free baggage allowance. A fee of EUR 50 applies.

Pets in the hold /AVIH/

Maximum weight of the animal and the container – 32 kg.

Maximum dimensions of the container – 80 x 74 x 64 cm.

Only dogs and cats are accepted. Bulgaria Air does not accept for carriage live animals to and from Great Britain.

If travelling with an animal /dog or cat/, please be advised to contact the aviation company at the time of purchase of your ticket, because if there is no request in advance, the carriage of the animal may be refused.

Not included in the free baggage allowance. A fee of EUR 80 applies.

Products of animal origin

The import of products of animal origin to the European Union is subject to strict procedures for veterinary and sanitation control. Due to the risk of introducing diseases to the European Union via products of animal origin containing pathogens and causing infectious diseases in animals, the import to the European Union of meat, meat products, milk and dairy products for personal consumption is prohibited. 

Exceptions are allowed for the following categories of products:

  • Powdered infant milk, infant food and special foods required for medical reasons, under the conditions that these products are packaged patented brand products, they do not require refrigeration before opening, and that the packaging is unbroken.
  • Meat and meat products and milk and milk products for personal consumption from the Faeroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland, in so far as their total weight is less than 5 kg.
  • Meat and meat products and milk and milk products for personal consumption from Andorra, Norway and San Marino.

Other quantities of meat and meat products and milk and milk products may be imported by passengers to the Community only provided they:

  • Hold the required documents issued by the official veterinary and sanitation authorities of the state of origin, confirming the goods comply to the requirements for import to the European Union.
  • Declare all such goods and submit the documents upon arrival to an authorized border veterinary control point of the EU.

Meat and meat products and milk and milk products that do not comply to these rules should be delivered upon arrival at the border for disposal ex officio.

The failure to declare such products may result in imposition of a fine or criminal charges.

Passengers are entitled to import foods of animal origin other than: meat and meat products and milk and milk products of weight up to 1 kg, with no requirement for delivery for inspection.

Damaged baggage

In case of damaged baggage or partial loss of the contents of the baggage you must report upon your arrival to the ‘Baggage Claim’ department at the respective airport and before passing the customs control, where a Damage Report will be prepared.

For the purpose of clarification, the procedure for repair of your damaged baggage requires you to submit a written inquiry by mail to the aviation company (Sofia, 1 Brussels Blvd., POB 1540, Complaints and Claims Department) or by e-mail: lf@air.bg. You need to submit a scanned Damage report, within 7 days of issuance of the Damager report.

Claims must be accompanied by the following original / scanned documents:

  • Damage Report;
  • Statement on impossibility of repairs;
  • Boarding pass(es);
  • Baggage tag(s);
  • Bank account / IBAN / SWIFT CODE;
  • Claim.

Delayed/lost baggage

In case of delayed / lost baggage you must report upon your arrival to the ‘Baggage Claim’ department at the respective airport and before passing the customs control, where a Property Irregularity Report – PIR.

You are kindly requested to send your WRITTEN CLAIM accompanied by the required original documents by registered mail with return receipt to the address shown herein below or to the e-mail: lf@air.bg within 21 of issuance of the Property Irregularity Report - PIR.

Claims must be accompanied by the following original documents:

  • Property Irregularity Report - PIR;
  • Boarding passes;
  • Baggage tag(s)
  • Receipt for excess baggage fee paid (if any);
  • Bank account / IBAN / SWIFT CODE;
  • Claim.
