Special assistance passengers
Passengers with special needs are those clients of Bulgaria Air, whose physical, mental or medical status requires provision of additional services or certain specialized assistance. The airline must be notified of the transportation of such passengers when making the reservation or purchase of the ticket, but not later than three working days before the flight date, so as to be able to guarantee the services required.
The main groups of customers with special needs are:
Passengers with limitations: those are all passengers, suffering from serious chronic ailments, and whose ability to move freely is impaired or difficult. For those passengers Bulgaria Air requires written authorization from a doctor concerning the fitness of the passenger to travel by air. In case in the company’s opinion the passenger’s condition requires an escort, transportation may be denied, if such was not arranged for at the passenger's expense. Should the passenger require assistance for moving within the airport, it is provided by the aviation company at no charge. Wheelchairs or other battery-powered mobility aids with non-spillable batteries, are acceptable on Bulgaria Air flights providing advance notification has been made to the airline no later than 24 Hrs. before the flight.
Wheelchairs/Mobility Aids with spillable Batteries CAN NOT be accepted for carriage.

For those passengers Bulgaria Air requires written authorization from a doctor concerning the fitness of the passenger to travel by air and in some cases written notice by the passenger about releasing the airline from liability, related with changes of the passenger’s medical status caused by air transportation.

The following categories of passengers will not be accepted for carriage on Bulgaria Air aircraft:
Passengers who have an infectious disease. Passengers whose appearance would be offensive to fellow passengers. Pregnant women beyond the end of the 34th week of pregnancy. Passengers who have had a coronary thrombosis within the previous three weeks unless it has been a very mild one and the physician in charge of the case is aware that the passenger may be subjected to a cabin altitude of up to 8,000 feet. Respiratory disease sufficient to cause dyspnoea at rest or on very mild exertion. Occasionally, additional oxygen may be carried on the aircraft if special arrangements are made to allow such passengers to travel Passengers who have undergone abdominal surgery within the previous two weeks. Passengers who have undergone thoracic surgery within the previous three weeks. Passengers who have suffered a spontaneous pneumothorax and where the lung has not yet fully expanded. Passengers who within the previous three weeks have suffered a significant hemorrhage or are anemic. Certain hemoglobin disorders, particularly sickle cell anemia. Passengers who are psychiatrically disturbed in any way should only be carried if: they are sedated and accompanied by suitable able-bodied escort to provide restraint if necessary

Expectant Mothers, newborns and infants: transportation of expectant mothers takes place only after submission of a declaration, releasing the company of liability for injuries, which air transportation may cause to them or their children. Medical clearance is required if: confinement may be expected in less than four (4) weeks, or from 4 weeks until 2 weeks before expected delivery date, pregnant passengers may be accepted provided they have a doctors certificate allowing this, and that the duration of the flight is 4 hours or less. Pregnant passengers will not be accepted for transportation within two weeks of expected delivery date.
Such clearance must be issued within seven (7) days prior to commencement of travel.
Flying of pregnant women after the 28-th week is not recommended. Bulgaria Air is not accepting for transportation pregnant women after the 34-th week of pregnancy.
Healthy new-born babies, provided not prematurely born shall not be accepted for carriage within first seven (7) days after birth. Medical clearance is required.for premature babies.
Passengers between 0-2 years are considered as infants INF, as a rule infants can not travel unaccompanied. Only one infant per adult passenger will be accepted. If there is a second infant traveling, there must be another adult to care for the second infant or a separate seat purchased child fare applicable. It is the responsibility of the passenger to provide sufficient care for the infant.
Such clearance must be issued within seven (7) days prior to commencement of travel.
Flying of pregnant women after the 28-th week is not recommended. Bulgaria Air is not accepting for transportation pregnant women after the 34-th week of pregnancy.

Unaccompanied minors: An unaccompanied minor UM is a child under 12 years of age, who is traveling alone or a child traveling with an escort provided by the carrying airline. All children traveling alone aged 12 years up to their 18-th birthday for which their parent/guardian has requested UM status may be qualified as unaccompanied minors.
Bulgaria Air accepts unaccompanied minors for carriage under following conditions:
children between 5 and 12 years of age; children between 3 years of age but who have not reach their 5-th birthday may be accepted for carriage if accompanied by an escort provided by Bulgaria Air at additional charge. One escort may accompany up to two minors of the same family. If the ---children are of the same only one escort charge will be payable.
Children should be in possession of all travel documents: passport, visa, health certificate required by counties of exit, transit and destination.
Note: At check-in the parent/guardian must remain at the airport of departure until the flight left and to provide a permanent contact to a supervisor at check-in or station manager until plane arrival at destination airport.
An Unaccompanied Minor Form /handling advice/ has to be completed and signed at the time of reservation or check-in. The UM must be met on arrival at the destination airport. Request for FB ESCORT should be submitted at least four days prior departure.
